About Us
With a longstanding background in Hairdressing, specialising in all methods of Hair Extensions and Bridal Hair, I was faced with a variety of different hair and scalp conditions on a daily basis. I would see clients at their most stressful points, planning their weddings and their hair showing the traces of stress- unable to give them real direction on treatment other than surface level – which I had done for years!
I would see clients for hair extensions daily, which is a great temporary way to restore confidence with hair – but I wanted to do more! Not everyone was suitable for Hair Extensions and it was those individuals that I really felt I was letting down – what are they supposed to do? Who can they turn to for help with their hair loss? Trichology isn’t a service available on the NHS so a lot of people haven’t even heard of it.
This led me to wanting to expand on my knowledge and the science of the hair and scalp by training as a Trichologist. Trichology has allowed me to provide my clients with more in-depth and personalised help & advice to ensure they achieve the very best treatment, in or out of the clinic.
It has allowed me to offer more specialised services and treatments to clients dealing with hair loss, scalp disorders, or other concerns. It has provided me with the scientific knowledge about hair growth, scalp conditions, and treatments so is much deeper than surface level cosmetic products. This means I have been able to focus on bringing results driven treatments for both hair loss and scalp disorders. I will never recommend a service or product unless I truly believe it has a place for improving your hair & scalp health.
I also went on to complete my Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) training, after being extremely impressed with the results that can be achieved, to be able to offer as a hair loss & hair density solution for many different conditions. Not all hair loss can be restored, and I wanted to be able to provide a solution for people who may find themselves in this situation. I have always been very creative and feel my knowledge and experience in the hair industry can go hand in hand with this treatment to provide the most natural looking results.

01.
I take a solution-focused approach to support you in getting your confidence back. By offering one-on-one consultations and treatments plans, we will work together to get your dream hair with expert advice & solutions to rejuvenate, prevent and control hair loss.
02.
With more than 50% of people suffering from hair loss, it is time we start talking about hair loss and the impact it has more openly. Your skin is your largest organ, and there is a lot of help out there to support the skin on your face and your body, but often the scalp gets forgotten. Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp.
03.
Despite how many of us will be impacted by hair loss in our lifetime, there is still a stigma and silence that surrounds the topic. I believe with consistency in the correct treatments & products, patience and a healthy lifestyle, you truly can make a difference.

FAQs
What is a Trichologist?
A trichologist is a specialist trained in assessing and treating hair and scalp conditions, such as hair loss, dandruff, scalp irritation, and thinning hair.
Is hair thinning reversible?
It depends on the cause. If thinning is due to stress, diet, or scalp health issues, targeted treatments can help improve or restore hair density. Genetic thinning is managed with long-term care.
What treatments do you offer?
Treatments include Scalp Detoxes, Microneedling Infusions, Exosome therapy, Chemical Exfoliation, Dermalux LED therapy, and personalised hair care plans including diet and supplement advice to promote healthier hair growth. I also offer Scalp Micropigmentation services as more of a cosmetic solution to improve hair density, conceal scarring or restore hairlines.
How does scalp microneedling help with hair growth?
Microneedling stimulates blood circulation and collagen production, enhancing the absorption of growth serums and promoting hair follicle health.
Is chemical exfoliation safe for the scalp?
Yes, when done correctly. Chemical exfoliation helps remove buildup, unclog follicles, and improve scalp health, but it should be tailored to your scalp type.
What are Exosomes?
Exosomes are tiny extracellular vesicles (30–150 nm in size) that are released by cells and play a crucial role in cell communication. They contain bioactive molecules such as proteins, lipids, and RNA, which they transfer to other cells, influencing various biological processes.
In hair restoration, Exosome therapy is gaining huge popularity as a successful treatment for hair loss, as these vesicles can stimulate hair follicle growth, reduce inflammation, and enhance scalp health. Compared to traditional treatments like PRP (platelet-rich plasma), exosomes may offer more potent regenerative effects due to their high concentration of growth factors and signaling molecules.
How is a trichologist different from a dermatologist?
A trichologist focuses specifically on hair and scalp health, while a dermatologist treats a broader range of skin, hair, and nail conditions, often with a medical approach.
Who is a good candidate for Scalp Micropigmentation?
SMP is suitable for people with hair loss due to male or female pattern hairloss, thinning hair, alopecia, or scars (e.g., from hair transplant surgery or injury).
Does SMP look natural?
Yes, when performed by a skilled technician, SMP mimics the natural appearance of hair follicles, blending seamlessly with existing hair.
Is SMP safe?
Yes, SMP is a safe procedure when performed by a certified professional using sterile equipment and high-quality, hypoallergenic pigments.
How long does scalp micropigmentation last?
SMP can last around 3 years before requiring a touch-up. Over time, the pigment may fade slightly, but it does not change colour like traditional tattoos due to it being a carbon- based, pure, single tone that fades in a predictable, natural way.
How Does Dermalux Red Light Therapy work for hair loss?
This treatment works by stimulating hair follicles by using specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light. This increases blood circulation to the scalp, promotes cellular repair, and encourages hair regrowth. At Tayside Trichology, I tailor each treatment to suit your specific hair and scalp needs, ensuring effective results.
How often do I need to undergo LED light therapy sessions?
The frequency of LED light therapy sessions may vary depending on individual needs and treatment plans. Typically, clients undergo sessions weekly or bi-weekly for optimal results, with each session lasting around 20-30 minutes.
